The Liner Coat Man's Field Jacket M65 : First Pattern

Sale price£480 GBP

The US Army M-65 field jacket is a classic profile that has been copied relentlessly. This is the rare first pattern, which almost certainly dates from 1966. This particular piece comes complete with the equally rare, button out first pattern liner.

In the realm of fashion, certain garments transcend time and trends, becoming iconic symbols of style and functionality. The M-65 field jacket is one such piece. A true testament to the marriage of form and function.

One significant upgrade in the M-65’s field jacket’s journey was the introduction of NYCO, a blend of nylon and cotton sateen. This advanced fabric enhanced the jacket's wind and water resistance, ensuring that the wearer remains protected in any weather condition. The inclusion of NYCO elevated the jacket's performance, making it a reliable companion for outdoor adventures.

Another notable improvement from other pieces was the replacement of the button-on detachable hood with a more discreet option. The new design allowed the hood to be hidden away into the collar, secured by a zipper enclosure. This clever modification not only added a touch of elegance to the jacket but also provided convenience and versatility to the wearer.

The evolution of the M-65 field jacket also saw a shift in the closure system. The traditional button cuffs were replaced with velcro, offering a more adjustable and secure fit. Additionally, snap closures were added to the storm flap, ensuring maximum protection against the elements. These thoughtful design choices further enhanced the jacket's functionality, making it a reliable shield against wind and rain.

One of the defining features of the field jacket, maintained throughout its various iterations, is its boxy silhouette. This intentional design allows for layering underneath, making it suitable for colder temperatures. The M-65, in particular, prioritised this aspect by incorporating interior buttons to attach a warm liner. This ingenious feature ensures that the jacket adapts to the wearer's needs, providing comfort and insulation when required.

Completing the functionality of the field jacket are its four front pockets. These pockets not only add a touch of utilitarian charm, but also offer practical storage solutions. With two pockets at the chest and two at the waist, the jacket provides ample space for essentials, allowing the wearer to keep their belongings close at hand.

The field jacket's evolution is a testament to the commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. From its humble beginnings, it has remained a symbol of timeless style and practicality. Whether exploring the great outdoors or navigating the urban jungle, the field jacket is a reliable companion, embodying the spirit of adventure and elegance.
