Discover Somerset : Bruton

Situated in the tranquil town of Bruton, with its population of approximately 3,000 people and abundant sheep, one may initially mistake the place for a sleepy village. However, this rustic countryside town, with its gentle slopes and charming storefronts, is far from dull. It is home to the exquisite Hauser and Wirth modern art gallery, elegant lodging options, and unique artisanal shops, making it a hub of cultural innovation and sophistication.

Just over an hour’s drive by car from our mill at Fox Brothers’, the countryside destination makes for an uncomplicated add-on after visiting our newly reopening FOX shop (opens 1st May 2024).

Charming even on a typical British overcast day, there's a distinguishable sense of community within the place, amongst plenty regal country estates. A serene and eclectic sanctuary set in the countryside awaits gentlemen of studied elegance, supporters of local produce, art enthusiasts and those wishing to explore the surrounding areas, after visiting FOX in Wellington, Somerset.

We recommend starting your trip into Bruton with the contemporary art gallery, Hauser & Wirth. A modern gallery offering a rustic charm through its locally supplied farm shop, characterful Durslade Farmhouse and landscaped gardens.

Take in the modern art and discover your own interpretation from thought-provoking pieces, such as a series of hallucinatory pigment dye transfers by Sang Woo Kim, depicting glowing figures in nature. Along with a mini-collection of self portraits on the opposite wall, showcasing an insightful account into the life and representation of the same artist.

Once you have experienced the wonders of Hauser & Wirth, grab a coffee and sumptuous sandwich from the farm shop and take a short walk into Bruton, right past some allotments and down some bendy countryside paths.

The small town of Bruton offers an array of delightful and independent shops such as Rag of Colts, a traditional leather makers, handcrafting a selection of timeless bags and vintage inspired accessories. You’ll also find a whole host of other niche independent outlets, with a selection of little and wonderful delights.

Finish your day trip within Bruton at the Chapel. An 18th century church-turned-restaurant, bakery, wine store and hotel. A quaint building, fully mastering a cozy-chic atmosphere. The restaurant boasts a delightful menu, including their signature fresh pizzas, cooked in an authentic stone-built wood-fired pizza oven.

The Chapel can also accommodate overnight stays, with a selection of spacious bedrooms, reflecting a minimalist and cool interior space, whilst still perfectly incorporating the heritage of the building, through its large chapel windows and marble bathrooms.

So, visit us and discover our latest garments at first-hand, find exclusive one-off archive pieces, browse our collection of wardrobe edits and more. Then if you still have time, take the journey into Bruton, for a delightful day to remember.
